Karen Arthur

Karen has always drawn, painted and made things from early childhood and studied Fine Art at Falmouth School Of Art in the early 1980s specialising in painting and printmaking. She moved her love of colour and pattern over into textiles, making bags for her business Smart Tart which she started in the mid 1990s.

Following a series of major traumas in her life, Karen needed a change of direction and for health reasons resumed her favourite outdoor activity, wild swimming;  swimming in the sea around Cornwall every day all year round. As someone who has always taken lots of photographs, and who found photography one of her favourite subjects at Art School, the visual impact of the swimming has meant a natural progression to her work now being mainly photography.
